Driveway Paver Installation in Montreal

Strong and elegant driveway paving solutions designed to improve curb appeal and long-term performance.

A paver driveway is one of the highest-impact curb appeal upgrades for any Montreal home, and when installed correctly, it outperforms poured concrete and asphalt in both durability and appearance. Our driveway installations demand the most rigorous base preparation of any paver project because the surface must support the repeated weight of vehicles without settling or shifting. We excavate to a minimum depth of 15-18 inches, install geotextile fabric over the subgrade, and build the granular base in compacted lifts using 0-3/4 inch crushed limestone. The total compacted base thickness is typically 12-14 inches for standard residential driveways. Over this we screed a one-inch layer of bedding sand, then lay pavers in a 45-degree herringbone pattern, which is the strongest configuration for vehicular traffic because it distributes tire loads across multiple units simultaneously. We use pavers rated at a minimum of 8,000 PSI compressive strength -- standard products from Techo-Bloc, Permacon, or Rinox all meet this threshold. The driveway apron where it meets the street requires careful grading to match the existing curb height and municipal sidewalk. Polymeric sand is applied to all joints and activated with water to lock pavers in place. Steel or concrete edge restraints are installed along all borders with heavy-duty spikes. For Montreal properties with narrow driveways or tight turning radii, we custom-cut border pavers and may incorporate a soldier course in a contrasting color to define edges cleanly.

FAQ for this service

Are paver driveways better than asphalt in Montreal?

Pavers significantly outperform asphalt in longevity, appearance, and maintenance. Asphalt cracks within 5-10 years from frost heave and needs resealing every 2-3 years. Pavers flex with ground movement, last 25-50 years, and damaged units can be individually replaced. Pavers also increase property value more than asphalt.

How long does a driveway paver installation take?

A typical two-car driveway of 400-600 square feet takes 5-7 working days from excavation to completion. This includes time for base compaction in proper lifts, which cannot be rushed without compromising the long-term performance. Larger or more complex driveways with curves or borders may take 7-10 days.

Can snow plows damage paver driveways?

Standard steel-blade plows can chip or scratch pavers if set too low. We recommend using a plow with a rubber or polyurethane edge, or setting the blade height one-quarter inch above the surface. Many of our clients use snow blowers on their paver driveways with no issues. The herringbone pattern we install resists paver dislodging from plow pressure.
