INFO-Neige vs. 311 Montreal: How to Track Snow Removal on Your Street

Compare the two main tools for tracking Montreal snow removal operations street by street. Learn how INFO-Neige and 311 Montreal work, what they show, and which one to use.

Every Montreal winter, the same question comes up on nearly every residential street: when is the snow loader coming, and do I need to move my car? The city offers several tools to answer that question, but the two most commonly used are the INFO-Neige MTL app and the 311 Montreal app. Here's a breakdown of what each one does, how they differ, and which one to use.

What Is INFO-Neige MTL?

INFO-Neige MTL is a mobile app that has been Montreal's dedicated snow-tracking tool for over a decade. Since its launch, the app has been downloaded more than 500,000 times. It connects in real time to the city's open data and displays the status of snow loading operations street by street using a colour-coded map interface.

Key features of INFO-Neige include:

  • Real-time street status: See whether your street has been cleared, is in progress, or has not yet been started.
  • Push notifications: Receive an alert when the status of the street where you are parked changes, giving you time to move your vehicle before towing begins.
  • Favourites list: Save multiple addresses so you can quickly check the status of your home, your workplace, or a friend's street.
  • Free parking locations: View the city's temporary free parking spots that are made available during snow loading operations.

INFO-Neige pulls data directly from the Ville de Montreal's open data platform, which means the information is the same data the city uses internally to track progress (Ville de Montreal, INFO-Neige Application).

The app is available on both the App Store and Google Play.

What Is Changing with INFO-Neige?

In early 2025, CBC reported that the City of Montreal would stop backing the third-party INFO-Neige app and would instead consolidate snow-related alerts into its own 311 Montreal app. The city's goal is to create a single municipal services platform rather than maintaining separate apps for different services (CBC News, Montreal Drops INFO-Neige After 10 Years).

That doesn't necessarily mean INFO-Neige will disappear overnight. The app's developer, Sidekick Interactive, built it using publicly available open data, so it can continue to function as long as the city keeps publishing that data. However, residents should expect the 311 app to become the city's official recommended tool going forward.

What Is 311 Montreal?

311 Montreal is the city's all-in-one municipal services app. It covers everything from reporting potholes and requesting permits to tracking waste collection schedules. Snow removal alerts are now part of its feature set.

Within 311 Montreal, you can:

  • Receive snow-removal notifications: Get alerted when operations begin on your street.
  • Report issues: Flag problems like an unplowed sidewalk or a missed street.
  • Access other city services: Because 311 covers the full range of municipal services, you only need one app installed instead of several.

The 311 app is also available on both iOS and Android.

The Snow Removal Operations Map

In addition to both apps, the city operates an interactive web-based map at services.montreal.ca/en/snowremoval/progress. This map shows the progress of snow loading operations for each borough in near-real time. It's useful if you prefer checking from a desktop browser or don't want to install an app.

The map displays:

  • Borough-by-borough completion percentages.
  • Which sectors are currently being loaded.
  • Historical progress for the current operation.

It's especially helpful during multi-day loading operations when you want to see how quickly your borough is progressing compared to others.

Which Should You Use?

For the 2025-2026 winter season and beyond, here's what we recommend:

  • Install 311 Montreal as your primary tool. It's the city's official app going forward and will keep getting updates and support.
  • Keep INFO-Neige as a backup if you prefer its dedicated, focused interface for snow tracking. It still works as long as the city publishes its open data.
  • Bookmark the web map for quick desktop checks during long loading operations.

Tips to Avoid Getting Towed

Regardless of which app you choose, here are practical steps to protect yourself during snow operations:

  1. Enable notifications for the street where you park most often.
  2. Check the app before bed during and after a snowstorm. Loading operations often begin overnight.
  3. Have a backup parking plan. Know which streets near you are cleared on different schedules, or use the city's free temporary parking lots.
  4. Save multiple addresses in your favourites if you regularly park in different locations.
  5. Follow your borough's social media for additional updates that may not appear in the apps.

Beyond the Street: Your Private Property

City snow operations cover public roads and sidewalks, but your driveway, walkway, and front steps are your responsibility. Keeping those surfaces clear and safe through the winter starts with good design: proper grading, slip-resistant materials, and drainage that prevents ice buildup.

If you want walkways, steps, or a driveway entrance that makes winter upkeep easier and safer, call Montreal Paysagement Pro at 514-900-3867. We design residential outdoor spaces built for real Montreal winters.
